Meeting # 3:

Speaker:

Web:

James Dalton

www.jamesdaltontrading.com
Date: Nov 15, 2011
Time: 7:00 p.m. (Registration 6:30)
Duration: 2 hours +/-
Location: Crowne Plaza
Topic: "Trading with the Market Profile vs. Trading the Market Profile"

Have you ever wondered how some traders can read the market and have a good idea of where it is headed, while you have no idea? Successful traders employ a methodology that encompasses many observations to build their market understanding and execute their trading ideas. You can compete by having a broader understanding that you carry into your shorter-term trading plan.

Jim will discuss his approach to formulating his market perspective and how he trades each day. Some topics of discussion:

  • The two-way auction process
  • Balance and excess -- the two most important concepts we deal with -- how to interpret and trade them
  • Long term, intermediate term, short term, and day timeframe trends
  • How overnight inventory affects the next pit session trading
  • References -- important price levels

Jim is not a Profile trader. However, he will share how he employs the concepts of the Market Profile -- time, price and volume -- for both longer term and shorter term trading. He will also show how you can implement these observations into your own trading regimen.

Jim will analyze several current markets to show you how to put his concepts into practice. He will specifically discuss what he will be considering for the next trading day and why. He will be happy to analyze other markets, ETFs, and stocks upon your request.

Join us for a thought-provoking and hands-on discussion about what is required to trade successfully over the long term.

James F. Dalton has been involved in the stock and futures markets for more than 40 years. He has been a member of the Chicago Board of Trade as well as a member of the Chicago Board Options Exchange, and Senior Executive Vice President of the CBOE during it formative years.

At Paine Webber - which merged into UBS Financial Services - Jim managed an institutional trading desk, then served as Manger, Hedge Fund Research, and finally became Director of Research for Managed Accounts. His experience is fully realized in two books: "Mind Over Markets: Power Trading with Market Generated Information" (1993) and "Markets in Profile: Profiting from the Auction Process" (2007) and his latest work, the "Field of Vision" video.

Currently a full-time trader, Jim advises two hedge funds and several trading firms. Jim is a discretionary trader and long-time proponent of employing the Market Profile to facilitate trading.

The ways in which the behavior of markets and traders affects each other serves as a common thread through Jim's writing, trading, and mentoring. He believes that ultimately self understanding is as important as market understanding; only when the two are equally well comprehended can the whole trader emerge and compete with greater odds of success.

Al Brooks

Topic:
Creating Binary Choices For An Edge In The Market

Institutions control both sides of every major market, and to trade profitably, you have to able to take money from their accounts and put it into yours. This is very difficult to do because they are consistently profitable. One way to give yourself an edge is to learn how to read the price action on the charts. Another is to simplify your decision making by structuring binary choices, like should I take this trade, should I buy rallies or sell pullbacks, is the market risk on or risk off, is the always in direction up or down, should I swing or scalp, or there more buyers or sellers above and below the prior bar? Al Brooks will discuss how to create and use binary choices to give yourself a trading edge.

Al Brooks received his BS in mathematics from Trinity College in Connecticut, and then graduated from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1978. He changed careers from ophthalmology to day trading 25 years ago, and specializes in price action analysis.

Although he considers himself to be a trading hermit, he enjoys sharing his ideas as a technical analysis contributor to Futures magazine and in his live market commentary and daily chart analysis updates on brookspriceaction.com. His book, Reading Price Charts Bar By Bar, was a best seller for Wiley in 2009, and in November, 2011, Wiley published his comprehensive, 540,000 word, three volume set:

Price Action Trading TRENDS
Price Action Trading TRADING RANGES
Price Action Trading REVERSALS

With his three daughters now on their own, he has had the time necessary to undertake such a large project, and the books have given him something fulfilling to do with his now much more open schedule. These new books provide a very detailed analysis of how markets work and how to trade them. Every tick on every chart is important and sometimes even the smallest movements portend large swings. There are buyers and sellers above and below every bar, and the key to successful trading is knowing when one side is likely stronger. The edge is always going to be small in trading because there are smart people who believe the exact opposite of you. However, by understanding price action, traders can find many examples on every chart, whether it is an intraday or daily chart, where there is a mathematical advantage to buying or selling.

Al enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience, and hopes that others might find it helpful.

Ryan Litchfield

www.bettertrades.com

Date: April 17, 2012
Time: 7:00 p.m. (Registration 6:30)
Duration: 2 hours +/-
Location: Crowne Plaza
Topic: TBD

Ryan Litchfield is a professional trader, nationally known public speaker and trading coach. He is also well known for his technical analysis and candlestick charting expertise and is co-author of the definitive book "Candlestick Charting Explained.". He is a faculty instructor and coach at www.bettertrades.com.

Experienced with a wide variety of trading and investment strategies, he has expanded the understanding of trading psychology and what it takes to win in the Head Games. Ryan believes that you will never take the emotion out of trading but you can learn how to control the emotional response to what the market does. He developed countermoves and power tweaks for use with spread and strangle strategies. Ryan teaches that trading as a skill is independent from strategies. That trading is a strategy; in fact it is The Strategy. If you do not have the trained discipline to face the fickle market and act appropriately under what ever pressure may show up on any given day, it does not matter how many strategies you know how to do.

Ryan put it all together so to speak, with the development of a powerful and unique training methodology called the Trader's Forge ™. The Traders Forge methodology incorporates the same elements used to train pilots, emergency and safety professionals to stay focused and follow appropriate procedures in high stress environments. The Bracket Trading ™ system forces proper planning by using "If / Then" scenarios, set in place while the market is closed and while traders can think clearly. This process trains the trading discipline by intense hands on application and repetition of the foundational skills. His central message is, "KNOWLEDGE is not power. EDUCATION is not the Key or the answer. In the end, the only thing that matters is what you can do under pressure. The strength of a great tree is the roots and the trunk, not the branches.
